Philosophy

My approach to therapy is focused on establishing a safe, supportive, and professional atmosphere where clients and I can examine whatever difficulties they are facing.  I strongly believe that therapy is a collaborative process; each person’s road towards healing is unique and relies on the experiences of both client and practitioner.   It is not always easy to identify what, exactly, is causing the turmoil in our lives.  My first role is to help examine where unhealthy patterns or dynamics take root or manifest.  I use an interpersonal model of therapy that focuses on my client’s relationships in order to identify dynamic issues and create changes in the way that clients interact with their world.  This draws upon the past experiences of the client, as well as their current experiences both in their world and in therapy.  Seeking to draw connections between where they have been and where we are now, the client and I work to identify new pathways to a more fulfilling, healthy future.

Over the last decade I have worked with people of all ages and backgrounds, and one of the constants is that significant and lasting change requires hard work, hope, and honesty.  I have a special interest in working with people experiencing reactions to traumatic events, whether recent events or those that took place in childhood.  Childhood abuse, self harm, identity issues, affective/mood disorders, dual diagnoses, sexual identity issues, men’s issues, anxiety, infertility and attachment issues are all areas in which I have experience working with clients.  In my practice I work with individuals, families, and adolescents.

If you would like to discuss beginning the process of therapy, I would be happy to offer a free 30 minute phone consultation.
